MAM Presents Jorge M. Perez Collection

March 20th, 2013

Sydney Server attended the Miami Art Museum exhibition: Latin American Art from the Jorge M. Perez Collection last Wednesday, March 13, 2013. This exhibition runs through June 2, 2013, and is significant because it will be the last in this facility before moving Miami Art Museum to its new location in December 2013.

The new location will be called Perez Art Museum, as an acknowledgement to Mr. Perez’s donation of $35 million toward the NEW MIAMI project. According to the Huffington Post, this donation includes $20 million cash and Latin American Art valued at $15 Million.

Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) Details

The new museum will be located at 1075 Biscayne Blvd, Miami, FL, 33132, and is reportedly three times larger than the current facility at 101 W Flagler St, Miami, FL 33130. Construction commenced nearly three years ago, and it has harnessed $220 million in funding. The building aims to achieve LEED certification according to the website, and will feature the largest hurricane-resistant windows on the market.

PAMM has contributed significantly to the local economy, with an estimated $37 million being budgeted for construction labor alone. Miami Herald also stated that avid art collectors, Debra and Dennis Scholl, have recently contributed 300 art works to the new museum that will open this fall. In honor of this estimated million-dollar donation, a lecture series will be named after the couple.
